Canada's Olympic Hockey Journey: Unveiling the National Teams for Italy 2026 (2026)

Exciting times ahead for Canadian hockey! As the country gears up for the upcoming Olympic Games in Italy, Hockey Canada has officially invited 92 talented athletes from its men's, women's, and para hockey teams to participate in the National Teams Orientation Camp scheduled for August 26-28 in Calgary. This gathering is not just a routine event; it's a pivotal moment in their preparation for the prestigious Olympics.

The National Teams Orientation Camp will span three days and will be packed with off-ice activities designed to foster team spirit among players and staff from all three hockey programs. Attendees can look forward to engaging presentations, team-building exercises, crucial meetings, and media interactions—all aimed at gearing up for the competitive season ahead.

Scott Salmond, the senior vice-president of high performance and hockey operations at Hockey Canada, expressed his enthusiasm about this initiative, stating, "We are thrilled to introduce the 92 athletes who will embark on this journey toward Italy. This camp serves as the first step in our quest for triple gold this February." He acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead, including rigorous evaluations and tough roster decisions, but emphasized the importance of unity as they prepare for the season.

Katherine Henderson, the president and CEO of Hockey Canada, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the significance of these athletes representing their nation. "This season promises to be thrilling for both Hockey Canada and the sport overall. We cherish the chance to unite Canadians through our National Winter Sport. Our national team athletes, coaches, and staff are dedicated to showcasing immense pride for our country, both on and off the ice, while striving for excellence in performance."

On the men's roster, 42 players from the NHL have been selected, including three goaltenders, 13 defensemen, and 26 forwards. These selections were made by general manager Doug Armstrong and his team, which includes assistant general managers and head coach Jon Cooper. Notably, this group features three Olympic gold medalists: Sidney Crosby, Drew Doughty, and John Tavares. Additionally, many of these players boast impressive resumes, with 12 having earned gold medals at the IIHF World Championship and 19 being Stanley Cup champions. The roster is a testament to the depth of talent in Canadian hockey.

For the women’s team, 30 players—comprising four goaltenders, 10 defensemen, and 16 forwards—have been chosen to represent Canada throughout the 2025-26 season. This selection was guided by general manager Gina Kingsbury, head coach Troy Ryan, and their coaching staff. Among them are 17 athletes who played pivotal roles in securing Canada's fifth Olympic gold medal at the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing. Furthermore, the roster includes players who contributed to the silver medal victory at the 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championship.

Turning to the National Para Hockey Team, 20 players, including three goaltenders, six defensemen, and 11 forwards, have been identified to join various camps and events during the 2025-26 season. Their selection involved consultation from the coaching staff and important figures in hockey operations. This roster proudly features nine athletes who earned a silver medal at the 2022 Paralympic Winter Games, along with 16 players who helped Canada clinch gold at the 2024 World Para Hockey Championship.
