In a community-driven move, parents in Guildford are expressing their support for plans to impose a 20mph speed limit on Boxgrove Lane. This initiative aims to enhance safety for students from various schools, including Boxgrove Primary School and Merrow Junior School, who navigate these roads during busy commute hours alongside numerous vehicles.
Jeannine Baumgartner, whose daughter has recently enrolled at a nearby school, shared her thoughts, stating, "I believe this is a positive step forward. My daughter just started attending school here, and I have noticed instances of drivers exceeding safe speeds."
Another local resident, Steve Middleton, described the proposal as a "good thing" but offered his perspective, noting, "Having lived here for 25 years, I never considered speeding to be a significant issue. However, I don’t see any reason why reducing the limit by 10mph would cause any problems."
This initiative aligns with recent consultations conducted by Surrey County Council regarding similar measures in other areas such as Dorking, Woking, and Walton-on-Thames. The council advocates that establishing lower speed limits could lead to a decrease in accidents and serious injuries, ultimately fostering a safer environment not only for children but also for older members of the community.
