Remembering Luke Spencer: Anthony Geary's Final Episode on GH (2026)

A Farewell to a Legend: Don’t Miss Luke Spencer’s Last Episode!

Attention, soap opera fans! This week isn’t just any ordinary week for viewers of General Hospital. Instead of the usual suspenseful events, there’s a deeply emotional milestone that no fan should overlook: the final appearance of Luke Spencer, portrayed by the unforgettable Anthony Geary. As we've shared before, on January 1, ABC will air a special encore presentation of the poignant episode from July 27, 2015, which serves as the legendary character's farewell to Port Charles.

The Legacy of Luke Spencer

Anthony Geary first graced our screens as Luke Spencer on November 20, 1978. His portrayal resonated so well with audiences that he remained on the show long after the initial 13-week stint was intended. After a brief departure in 1983, Geary returned alongside his beloved co-star Genie Francis, who played Laura, for a storyline in 1984. When he made his comeback in 1991, he took on the role of a different character, Bill Eckert, who was Luke’s doppelgänger. Unfortunately, this character didn’t capture the audience’s heart in the same way, leading to Bill being killed off in 1993, allowing Geary to continue his iconic role as Luke. Throughout his remarkable career on General Hospital, Geary amassed an impressive collection of eight Daytime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Lead Actor, solidifying his status as a daytime television legend.

In May 2015, Geary announced his retirement from both General Hospital and acting, subsequently relocating to Amsterdam where he enjoyed life with his husband, Claudio Gama. Tragically, on December 14, 2025, the actor passed away at the age of 78 due to complications from a planned surgery. Following his death, fellow cast members and friends expressed their sorrow and admiration through heartfelt tributes, while his widower shared a touching message for the GH community, emphasizing how greatly he would be missed.

What to Expect in the Special Episode

In the upcoming promo, viewers will find Luke at the docks, gazing out over the water, symbolizing his readiness to embark on a new chapter. In a touching scene, he shares a farewell embrace with Sonny, played by Maurice Benard, before declaring, "Goodbye, Port Charles."

But Luke’s departure isn’t the only gripping storyline awaiting fans in this classic episode. Audiences will also get to see Ric, portrayed by Rick Hearst, maintaining control over Nina, then played by Michelle Stafford, while Madeline, portrayed by Donna Mills, schemes to keep Maxie, played by Kirsten Storms, and Nathan, played by Ryan Paevey, apart. Additionally, viewers will witness Lulu, then played by Emme Rylan, and Dante, portrayed by Dominic Zamprogna, continue to navigate their tumultuous relationship following Dante's betrayal with Valerie, played by Brytni Sarpy.
