Waisea Nacuqu Withdraws from Fiji 7s: Vunisa Steps In! (2026)

Fiji 7s Star Nacuqu Withdraws from Select Team, Vunisa Steps In

The Fiji 7s team has faced a setback with the withdrawal of Waisea Nacuqu, a key player, from the Mike Friday Select team. This decision was made due to a formal request from the Human Resources Director of the Fiji Police, emphasizing Nacuqu's duty as a serving and paid employee. The Police's position is fully respected by tournament organizers, who understand the importance of Nacuqu's professional and future commitments.

This isn't the first time a Police player has had to withdraw; Ilikimi Torosi was the first to do so. To fill the gap, the team management has called upon Sairuisi Vunisa, a standout player in the 2024 Ambassador All Star Team. Vunisa's selection was based on his own observations of a player with explosive flair, natural power, and game-breaking ability, much like the legacy of Rupeni Caucaunibuca.

The Coral Coast 7s tournament, starting next Thursday at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, will feature these changes. Fans can catch the matches live and exclusively on FBC Sports, and anytime, anywhere streaming is available on VITI+ (https://www.viti.plus/).
